My REFLECTION
I think that researching all different religions and learning about them gave me a totally different perspective of marriage and how it can mean totally different things in different religions. But still, all of them accomplish one thing that remains the same - the couple promise to remain together happily forever.
Christian marriage - I really think and admire the way Christian weddings all have a specific order that is not so complicated to follow. In addition, I really like the fact that the wedding takes place in the Church right in front of God. The symbolism of the candle lights brings up brightness, prosperity and happiness during the life of the couple . The candles give the sign of life and the holy father, Jesus Christ.
Jewish marriage - I really find the canopy ceremony during the marriage interesting and inspiring. I think I really like the way how it is really symbolic that the couple are now starting a new home, as well as a new family. It is really fascinating how the bride circles the groom seven times representing the 7 days of creation and how much that affects a person's life. Also, it is quite a smart tradition because the couple are not allowed to see each other for the week before the wedding and that really increases the eager and enthusiasm for the wedding! I feel that even though it is marriage time and its all about being happy, it is good to realise the destruction that took place in Jerusalem by breaking a glass.
Hindu marriage - Hindu marriage includes many different ceremonies and takes several hours to complete. As I am hindu myself, I know more about these rites and have seen many hindu marriages many times. What I like about the hindu wedding is that the bride doesn't just wear a wedding dress like many cultures, she wears something unique that beautifully represents her tradition and culture. The symbol of wearing of a saree, as well as bangles, toe rings, mangal sutra, heavy necklace, earing, nose ring and many other things. For me, it brings the cherish momentum for the wedding when everyone is getting ready and excited.
Islamic marriage - Islamic marriage has quite different cultures that stood up to me. I think it is not right for girls to be forced into a marriage because even though parents want best partners for their children it is wrong because the person doesn't get the chance to live with somebody they actually know. On the other hand, I thought that sitting on a throne which is done even in Hindu traditions is quite good because it makes you feel special that it's your day tonight!
All cultures have their own rituals, symbols, words and interpretations of marriage. Many may agree or disagree with many rites in those traditions and that is definitiely ok because everyone believes in something different. In my oppinion, I think when a couple marry, it shows that they have become one and will unite together. Although there will be ups and downs they will cooperate with one another and remain happy. I think that if a couple is married, they should have children because that starts a family which I think is one of the most important things in life. Being married comes with many responsibities and duties that the couple should be ready to accept. I think that marrying only once during lifetime is a better option!
